AUTISM, DAVID KIRBY AND MOI
In December of 2002, I wrote a number of posts expressing skepticism about a link between thimerosal and autism and supporting the concept of a bill madating that any such claims be pursued through the Vaccine Industry Compensation Program. Those posts can be found here, here and here.
In June of 2003, David Kirby briefly interviewed me for what became his recently published book Evidence of Harm. I understand that I am not mentioned or quoted in the book. (No offense taken - I didn't say anything particularly original or worthwhile.)
In the fall and winter of 2003, around the time of my son's second birthday, we became aware of certain regressions and developmental delays. Our son was subsequently diagnosed with autism. We were not aware of our son manifesting any symptoms at the time I wrote the posts linked above.
As of this writing, I have not yet read Evidence of Harm, though I have followed closely the coverage of the issues raised therein and am familiar with the book's general arguments.

» Thimerosal, Again from In the Pipeline
Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. has helped to put this issue right back on the front pages again. I spoke a lot about thimerosal in vaccines, and its putative link to autism, back in late 2002, which is when the controversy... [Read More]

You've probably looked into all of this, but I strongly recommend fish oil supplements for your entire family, especially your son. They're not a magic cure, but there's evidence that they may help with autism, and there's growing, substantial evidence that they may also help with other problems (bipolar disorder, ADD, dyslexia, arthritis, asthma, allergies, depression, schizophrenia and of course heart attacks and strokes).
My favorite brand is Pro-EFA by Nordic Naturals. The research on late-talking children has generally focused on this blend (see the Cherab Organization website), and it's remarkably unoffensive for fish oil, since they work hard to take out the fishy taste.

I am so sorry about the recent dx of your son.. it takes time.. give it to yourself.
I have been researching for years since my son was dx at 4 , he is now 8 and I am here to tell you that amazing things can happen!
My son Ryan would now pass for "normal" what ever that is...
I went to a DAN Dr and got the biomedical stuff started, along with intensive one on one therapy- mostly done by me reading books and doing the best I could on my own..
I can offer my help if you need it.. anytime.... jennyboys2@yahoo.com
each child is so different in how is best to start..
take care and know that there are so many of us out there who are in the same boat..

As of this March, I would have never understood your pain.
I still as of this point do not fully put my soal behind any one point. All I do know is as follows.
It is a trifector of assaults on our children.
Please keep yourself from aligning with one specific ideal. Oddly, I thought that in this fight for my sons life, I would find a coalition of parents, I have sadly only found specific families that were willing to accept my beliefs and ideals. The rest were militant and denegrating.
This can be discouraging, and dont let it be.
This is a true test of faith for me, not only in the knowledge that my son will recover but... in the people that will help him.
Your child will be everything. The moon , the stars and still the sun. Look in his eyes, see what is, trust that your baby sees back.
Sometimes, I think, maybe he sees my soal and it scares me. He sees my soal more than any person on this simple earth.
One day, he can tell me what he sees... maybe that scares me more.
