QUOTE OF THE DAY
Comes from John Derbyshire, about the role of the judiciary (though it could be applied to any number of questions):
Do I want big decisions about the shape of society made by a bunch of self-important lefty law-school grads, their brains all addled with 1960s-ish flapdoodle about rights and penumbras? Or would I prefer to have it done by a crew of not-very-successful, not-very-bright small-town lawyers whose pockets are stuffed with cash from teachers’ unions, chicken-processing magnates, Saudi princes, and Mexican drug lords?
A tough question indeed.

Preposterous decisions by small-town lawyers are less likely to be cited as a precedent.

Sounds like damned if you do, damned if you don't. I would be more inclined to
agree with Joseph on this. We could always try to do away with all lawyers
or liars etc.

Also, Is there a third category? A veritable torrent of venial, highly successful, incredibly skilled, highly stupid, totally partisan, big-and-small town bureaucrats... anyone know what the percentage of lawyers is in the House and Senate?...
with their pockets stuffed full of special interest money from the rich, the incorporated, the investment-minded, the corrupt, the over-regulated (in their minds, of course), and the evil.
Who makes _your_ law? And do they have your best intentions at heart? You know they do... but they get to define what best is.
