WE HAVE A WINNER!
I've been working around the clock for the last few weeks, coupled with assorted holiday preparations and family issues - so there's been no blogging. But this calls for a break in the silence.
I've been following, though not blogging about, the immolation of CBS' and Dan Rather's credibility through the faked memos about President Bush's National Guard service. (All hail Powerline for uncovering the story.)
The NYT has been conspicuously absent from the front lines of this story, but they've more than made up for it with this headline. Click on it before the editors come to their senses.
A couple of years ago, this blog "sponsored" a contest inspired by a wonderful NYT headline that was a seemingly perfect combination of utter stupidity and anti-Bush spin.
I never named a winner in that contest. We have one now.
P.S. In case they change the headline, this is what it says at this time:
"Memos on Bush Are Fake but Accurate, Typist Says"
Can anyone more technically proficient than I save a screenshot?

I'd love to see this article. But refuse to sign up for a "New York Times on the Web" account on principle.

I'll Never sign up for the New york times.
But!
I think that that Typist who said she did the
typing for LtCol Killian might be the source
of the Bush memos as she said she knew what
the col was thinking. She said this after the
Memos had been all but proven to be fake so
to salvage a little of the fraud she now comes forth.

or take the article URL and paste it into a google box (this is faster in Safari or Firefox or if you have the google bar). Then click the resulting link and you're in. NYT doesn't block google.com as a referrer since they want to be crawled.

So, maybe it's time for Dan Rather to spell "retired". It's almost (but not quite) sad to see such an end to a career.

Did you see this in the NYT article. I laughed so hard.
The Democratic National Committee released an Internet video on Tuesday accusing Mr. Bush of being dishonest about his National Guard service. The Republican National Committee shot back a one-line statement: "The video the Democrats released today is as creative and accurate as the memos they gave CBS."

What did Dan Rather know about the forgeries and when did he know it?

I bet they (CBS) will not come clean today. They will stick to their story and blame the right wing media. JUST TELL US THE TRUTH RATHER.

Finally,
I think Dan RAther has finally sunk himself.
This is what CBS should do:
1) Apolige to the President of the United States
2) Apolige to the American People.
3) FIRE DAN RATHERS

Good Lord. This is just like William Raspberry's review of Fahrenheit 911: "Fake but accurate".
What is next?
"Jayson Blair articles are fake but accurate, says New York Times."
